Grousing and whining about bad service is easy, it gets driven by anger and frustration and the possibility that if I hop up and down like a hobgoblin here someone will sympathise. But good service too easily gets dropped like a condom wrapper and never mentioned again.
So I want to put in a good word for Thai Airways. I spend a lot of time on their planes and the service is always damned good, including the free neck and shoulders massage and free WiFi, plus the great food at their Bangkok lounge. Flights have pretty much been on time with only one delay in 6 years because of a maintenance problem.
Buit tnat's not what I'm on about, flying planes and giving good service is what airlines should be about. What really stands out is their loyalty programme, a loyalty that seems to cut both ways. I have used airpoints to bring my daughter to Sydney several times, and even my in-laws a couple of times as well. I've used them to get to NZ for several family occasions and i just booked another round trip today, Sydney, Auckland Wellington Sydney in the first week of October, ten minutes to do it and on only one date change because there were no seats available, which is about normal.
But the creme de la creme was my daughter's trip to the US. 10 days before she was due to leave, I call Thai and they book her flights, Auckland, San Francisco, Indianapolis, Dallas Auckland. 60,000 points, only one date not exactly as requested, delivered on time and with zero hassle.
Plus I had an abortive attempt to use air points for a proposed trip to sweden via the US in April and in the end it turned to custard on me. But after booking three alternative routes and then not taking any of them, all I got was cheery, helpful service and a thanks at the end.
They deserve your business. That's all I wanted to say.
