I absolutely agree that society is now almost obsessed with oversimplification, which we can see again and again in politics and society. However, I still believe that KISS is not necessarily obsolete, but must instead be realized for what it is: a Hint.
There is a famous paper on System design in computer science (that is partially applicable to many things), that stresses the importance of KISS and several other principles, but also stresses that these are only guidelines and should be broken, when necessary.
Because of this, the KISS principle is followed by another guideline: Make things as simple as possible, but never simpler. It is this principle that has been largely forgotten in our times, that must always be kept in mind when applying KISS.
